Joe, Ean and I shared a room and woke up at 4:15 and through our stuff on and grabbed a quick light breakfast and hopped on the bus just outside the hotel.

We got up to Folsom Prison and sat on the bus for 15-20 min before we decided to get off and hit the port. We hit the port no problems and had about 45 min to kill. We just hopped on a random bus that had some extra seats open and chatted with some other runners till about 20 till gun time. We dropped off our clothes at bag drop and headed down to start. Joe and I got a quick pee break off the side of the road when we hopped off the bus. After that Joe and I jogged around on the side for about 1/2 mile or so, mainly to stay warm. We lined up and I spotted Scotty D and planned on going with him for as long as I could.

We took off and I felt really good. We started a bit slower but I was fine with it. Scotty is an absolute master to negative splitting. We went through 10k with Stephanie Bruce and Chatted with her a bit. Scotty used to run in college with her coach Ben Rosario and we have a mutral friend in Scott Smith.

We kept going at 10k and ran with a group of about 8-10 guys off and on for the first 1/2. I was really surprised when I went through 1/2 faster than I ever have. I still felt somewhat good and Scotty was feeling better cause he was pulling away slightly.

About mile 14-15 I slowed about 10 sec a mile and started feeling the effects of running a marathon 2 weeks prior. I still felt like I could maintain under 6 min pace and made that somewhat a goal within the race.

About mile 20 S Bruce caught me and was with another dude and I latched on with them for a mile or so then she pulled away from us both.

Mile 22 I hit the 6 min pace and it was a good survival drag in to the finish..

My breathing was fine and the course was perfect. My legs simply didn't have any get up and go in them. When I came in the finish they annouced that I was unoffically the 3rd place master. I was really surprised and thankful I made it in without falling off completely.

Scotty D ended up with like 2:28:01 ish and was really just using this race as a rust buster.

Ean was sick with a cold and i really felt sorry for him. He ended up just over 3 hrs and Jenny right behind him.

Joe took a whopping 15 min off his marathon PR and got a BQ for the first time.

We had a great trip other than Ean being sick.

Me, Joe, Ean, Jenny and Scotty

Amazing show of strength and determination. Cool deal getting into the $ as a Top Master. An effort to be proud of for sure!
