Headed up to Tulsa with some running bud's to run the Tulsa Run. Just happened to be the 4th year of the Master National Championship race. I ended up getting a comp and decided to race it and if anything else just use it as a tempo for the week. The weather was pretty much horrible with high heat and winds but I went into the race with no expectations other than put in a good effort. The comp was really good and I went out at the gun with the lead guys till about mile 1. after that they separated from me about 10-15 sec a mile. We had an out and back from miles 3-5 roughly and you could see where you stacked up. I was about 20 sec behind the actual turning point and noticed Greg Mitchell had made his move. He was a past champ that basically ran away from everyone. He was also the favorite to win and rightly so. Gardiner and David Angell were running together maybe 5 sec behind Mitchell at that point. When I made the turn I saw a 50 yr old dude James Jackson from Tx about 10-15 sec behind me. I basically ran the rest of the race solo in no man's land with plenty of heat and hills to go around. I was ready to see the finish line.

When I finally made it in I saw Gardiner hunched over and asked him how he did and he was really excited and said he won. He told me that Mitchell had blown up and he passed him about .5 mile out from the finish. Mitchell collapsed at the finish and had to get poked with an IV.

Our team ended up getting 2nd place to Cal Coast again.  Looks like I've got plenty of motivation going into next year..3rd year in a row to get 4th overall and 3rd year in a row to get 2nd place team...

I think I felt kinda flat with the big taper...I think my body feels sharper going into a race with some miles on my legs.....Note to self...*****

Went over to Scott Smith's place for some burgers afterwards. And forgot to mention some running friends did some really remarkable things in the open race. Arya won the Top OK money for men and Amanda took 5th overall money and top OK women money home...with a PR to boot. and Aaron had a breakout race and finished not to far behind Arya.
